  • We are a small, mixed-age school for children in Kindergarten through Grade 5.

  • No. Northwood Cottage School is a secular private school. Students and families of all backgrounds are welcomed at Northwood Cottage School.

  • We draw on a variety of resources for all of our subject areas, offering a flexible approach that adapts to student interests and needs. Please see the Academics page for more detailed information.

  • Because our students work hard during the school day, homework is not a regular part of our routine. Instead, we encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes each evening, either independently or with an adult. We hope this becomes a cherished part of your evening routine.

  • Teachers regularly assess students' understanding to ensure they acquire the necessary foundational skills. Parents will receive a standards-based report card at the end of each trimester. Additionally, students will present their work in a portfolio exhibition to showcase their achievements twice a year.

    At the beginning, middle and end of year, students will participate in the computer based NWEA MAP assessment in reading and math. This standardized test will help teachers and parents identify student strengths and opportunities for growth.

  • While we recognize the importance of technology skills, we also have concerns that students are spending too much time on screens. As a result, we intentionally limit technology use. We aim to support our students' academic growth through human-to-human experiences over screens.

  • No. We encourage students to express themselves through their clothing. We simply ask that attire be appropriate for the day's activities. If any item becomes a distraction to the student or others, it should not be worn again.

  • At Northwood Cottage School, we do not currently offer a meal service. As such, students should bring a packed lunch and a snack each day. Please ensure your child has sufficient nourishment for a full day of learning.

  • To ensure the health and safety of our entire student body, we require all students to be fully immunized. This means having all recommended vaccinations up to date, as specified by the Texas Department of State Health Services and the CDC. Please provide complete and current immunization records upon enrollment.
